The Introduction of PCT Youth (TKC)

We believe that the Church is the fellowship of God’s people, called to proclaim the salvation of Jesus Christ and to be ambassador of reconciliation. It is both universal and rooted in this land, identifying with all its inhabitants, and through love and suffering becoming the sign of hope.

Anti-Nuclear Policy

In this 1992 PCT statement, it opposed nuclear energy because it was not safe. It also caused problems for the nuclear waste disposal. The PCT therefore called for the use of renewable energy and a change of life-style by reducing energy consumption. The three visitors noted that in the ecumenical movement few churches have adopted such a policy. In fact, none of the churches in North East Asia has done so. In the WCC, it has a clear statement against nuclear weapons, but it had not been able to adopt an anti-nuclear energy policy. The PCT position was hailed by the visitors to be courageous, prophetic and visionary.

Youth Poverty Issue

In Taiwan, the young people born after 1980s are often referred to as the "strawberry generation". It means that they are like strawberries, which look delicious and beautiful but easily collapse. Also, the media often describe Taiwanese youth as being irresponsible at work and only looking for a good time.

Future of Taiwan

The PCT remembers well the controversial re-entry of the China Christian Council (CCC) into the WCC in 1991. The CCC had the impudence to ask the PCT to change its name as a condition for the CCC return to the WCC.
